Although frozen raspberries exported to Spain increased steadily over the last four years from 3,100 tons to 4,100 tons (+25%), Morocco’s earnings decreased in 2022-2023, falling from 7.7 Mln dollars to less than 3.5 Mln dollars (-30%), East Fruit reported on Sunday.
Morocco is now ranked 8th among global exporters of frozen raspberries, up from 23rd in 2017, and now approaching Ukraine which ranked 3rd worldwide after only Serbia and Poland.
Overall, Moroccan farmers were able to sell 12,700 thousand tons of agricultural products to international markets in the 2022/23 season, generating 23 million dollars in export earnings.
Morocco now exports its frozen raspberries to 27 countries, while five years ago, only six countries were buying the Kingdom’s produce.
This season, in contrast to the last four years, Morocco’s berry sales fell more than 20% from the previous year. While exports to Germany, Italy, and France fell, Spain remained the leading importer of Morocco’s frozen raspberries, with the highest growth in frozen raspberry imports.
Spain is now rated 14th among global importers of frozen raspberries and blackberries, mainly coming from Morocco, up from 20th five years ago.
