Six Moroccan cities will host the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), namely Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir and Fez. The African Football Confederation (CAF) had announced Morocco as the official host country of the African tournament on Wednesday.
According to informed sources, the National football team will kick off the competition in Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah stadium.
The list includes Casablanca, which boasts Africa’s largest theater and second-tallest tower; Tangier which hosts the country’s largest stadium; Marrakech which is set to host Africa’s first American-style Sky Box stadium; Agadir which has a stadium that sits 45,000 spectators; and Fez, which ranks fourth in terms of hotel accommodations.
The African tournament is expected to boost Morocco’s tourism and infrastructure development, and showcase the country’s commitment to hosting major international events.
Morocco is the top African nation in the FIFA rankings. It was ranked fourth in the last World Cup, and has hosted the U23 Africa Cup.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
