A teacher at Lycée Descartes in Rabat, managed by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), has been accused of “maintaining a sexual relationship” with a 14-year-old student.
The teacher, whose identity has not been disclosed, was said to have been dismissed in a press release from the school: “As of this day, the teacher, a member of the staff under local law, is no longer part of the staff of the establishment and the management [of the school] is in close contact with the family.”
According to Moroccan news outlets, the claimed misconduct goes beyond inappropriate communications and may involve a sexual encounter between the teacher and the minor. The alleged is also said to be of Franco-Algerian descent.
The Association Touche Pas à Mes Enfants (Don’t Touch My Children), recognized for its commitment to child safety, released a sharply worded statement condemning what it called “pedophilic acts” and criticizing the school’s handling of the case.
Najat Anwar, the president of the NGO emphasized that merely dismissing the accused teacher is insufficient and called for legal action. She urged the school to take stronger steps and persisted on reporting the occurrence to authorities.
