The Israeli-built Barak MX anti-aircraft and missile defense system made an appearance at an Israeli military display. This was the first appearance of the system in the camouflage colors of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR). Morocco began to receive shipments of a purchase of these systems in mid-2023. The news comes from Arabic Defense, an online news outlet focusing on Arab military affairs.
The Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Barak MX system stands out for its exceptional characteristics. It can defend against many modern military threats, such as ballistic missiles, fighter jets, cruise missiles, drones, helicopters, and glide bombs. The system is made up of multiple interceptor components, each of which is customized to a specific frequency.
Access to such technologies is expected to enhance the Moroccan military’s defensive and tactical abilities.
According to the FAR X account, Morocco initiated the purchase of the first Barak MX batteries several months ago, as part of a substantial arms agreement valued at over $500 million. This agreement was part of a larger military cooperation agreement signed between Morocco and Israel in February 2022.
