The Moroccan government approved a 5% raise for the minimum wage in non-agricultural sectors, such as commerce, industry, and services to 3,120 MAD, and in the agricultural sector to reach 2,303 MAD, Minister of Employment Younes Sekkouri said on Thursday. Workers will receive the newly-announced raise starting this month.
In a press conference after the weekly cabinet meeting, Sekkouri said the number of employees whose salary did not reach the minimum wage stood at 1.4 million people at the end of July this year, the equivalent of 39% of the total number of workers in the formal sector.
The Minister explained that some employees have not yet received the minimum wage because they did not work a 30 days in full.
He added that this increase is part of the tripartite agreement signed on April 30, 2022, between the government and the social partners, including the Moroccan Employers’ Association (CGEM), the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development (COMADER), as well as major trade unions.
