The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) announced on September 18 that it has issued emergency aid to its NGO L’arche de Noé (Noah’s Ark) following the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco two weeks ago.
“Our funds will support the purchase of animal food to be distributed to families and veterinary supplies to treat injured dogs, cats, and equids in the field, as well as those who require surgery at their veterinary clinic,” read the IFAW’s press release.
In addition to this assistance, IFAW emphasized its commitment to maintaining communication with potential partners to explore further avenues of support. The organization’s approach aims to provide aid to the most severely impacted communities through established and trusted relationships with its partners.
The IFAW team under L’Arche de Noé is a dedicated group focused on rescuing and protecting distressed animals worldwide. They actively respond to natural disasters, armed conflicts, and emergency situations, and conduct rescue operations for both wild and domestic animals.
IFAW assisted the Born to Be Wild program in Morocco from 2017 to 2020. Morocco’s earthquake occurred just seven months after a catastrophic earthquake in Turkey-Syria, where IFAW collaborated with various partners and participated in recovery operations.
On September 9, IFAW expressed its deep concern for the crisis, stating that it had initiated assessments and human rescue efforts upon receiving reports of families trapped under the rubble of their homes.
