In a show of solidarity over the deadly earthquake that struck several provinces of Morocco on September 8, U.S. President Joseph R. Biden called King Mohammed VI on Monday to express his condolences and offer a significant $1 million contribution from the United States to assist with earthquake relief efforts, announced the White House in a read-out of the phone call.
On behalf of the American people and government, Biden offered his heartfelt condolences to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people.
He also praised Morocco’s swift and efficient response to the earthquake, carried out in accordance with the High Royal Instructions, according to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP).
The President reiterated the US’s willingness to support Morocco’s disaster response, and highlighted that he had allocated $1 million to assist with relief efforts in the impacted regions. The leaders committed to stay in “close contact.”
Morocco continues its multifaceted action plan to address the aftermath of the disaster and work toward recovery in the hardest hit regions.
