The Morocco Environment 2050 Movement has issued a warning to authorities in all affected regions regarding anticipated rainfall that could lead to flash floods and soil erosion in the earthquake-hit areas.
In a Facebook post Monday, they warned of danger on particularly treeless slopes, emphasizing that unless action is taken, the tragedy of the earthquake could be compounded.
In a plea to local authorities, the movement highlighted the imminent risk of rockslides and the extreme danger of the slopes in the Imi N’Tala near Amizmiz, (Al Haouz region) emphasizing that the terrain is highly hazardous and, because of the grade of the slope, unsuitable for setting up tents.
The organization also drew attention to the concerns of the residents of the Taliza village in the Inezgane commune, whose residents have been living in homes with visible cracks.
The movement relayed a message from the inhabitants, urging the authorities to address these harsh conditions. It added that, since the earthquake, residents of these areas have spent nights in the cold away from their homes.
The movement also urged architects and reconstruction committees to focus on ways to reuse earthquake debris, including resources like stone and cement, because this would be a more sustainable and efficient solution.
