The Tripartite Commission representing Spain, Morocco, and Portugal convened its inaugural meeting in Las Rosas, Spain on Sunday, as part of the three countries’ combined bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, according to a statement issued by the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Pedro Rosha, President of the Spanish Football Federation (REFF), Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the FRMF, and Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) led the discussions at the meeting.
Pedro Rosha expressed his satisfaction after the meeting, saying “We are advancing together with the goal of delivering a World Cup project that is stronger than ever thanks to Morocco joining our team.”
Lekjaa emphasized the historical significance of the opportunity, stating, “We are aware of the great responsibility on our shoulders and will give it our best efforts, working closely with a dedicated team of professionals to achieve our objective.”
Gomes expressed confidence in the strength of their candidacy, saying, “We are confident in the potency of our bid and are working closely with professionals to achieve the best possible result.”
The FRMF highlighted its involvement in the joint candidacy for the 2030 World Cup, emphasizing the Morocco’s unique position at the crossroads of two continents and multiple cultures.
The Commission’s next working meeting will be held in Rabat on October 4, with all three federation presidents expected to be present.
FIFA is scheduled to announce the host countries in December 2024.
