Moroccan athlete Othmane El Goumri (31) won the International Marathon held in Sydney (Australia) on Sunday, completing the 42-mile course in 2h08min 20sec.
The Moroccan runner, in his first victory after winning the Dublin Marathon in 2019, beat Kenya’s Laban Kipngetich Korir (2h 08min 43sec) by 23 seconds and Ethiopia’s Getaneh Molla Tamire (2h 11min 22sec).
In the women’s group, American Betsy Saina won the title, finishing the race in 2h 26min 47sec, followed by Ethiopian Rahma Tusa Chota (2h 26min 53sec) and Kenyan Gladys Chesir Kiptagelai (2h 28min 41sec).
The 42-mile race started at Milsons Point, crossed Harbour Bridge to Pyrmont, then followed the waterfront to Centennial Park, before returning to the city along Oxford Street and heading towards the Royal Botanic Gardens and the finish line at the Sydney Opera House.
The Sydney Marathon is an annual marathon race held in Down Under every September and attracts runners from all over the world.
