Police services at Larache port (northern Morocco) foiled the attempt by two men to smuggle three tons and 285 kg of cannabis resin (locally known as chira) on Sunday morning. The Territorial Surveillance services (DGST) had provided the police with critical information to spot the truck carrying the drug.
The National Police (DGSN) explained in a press release that search operations resulted in the seizure of the illicit substance packed in 90 boxes and stashed inside a trailer for fish transportation.
The traffickers, aged 44 and 54, were arrested and remanded in police custody, pending further investigations under the supervision of the Public Prosecution.
The operation is the fruit of a collaborative effort by the DGSN and DGST to combat international drug trafficking.
