The OCP Group, Morocco’s largest phosphate and fertilizer processing company, announced on Friday that it intends to donate a sum of one billion MAD to Bank Al-Maghrib’s (BAM) Special Fund No. 126, created to receive donations to provide disaster relief to victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco on September 8.
OCP also said they will match any employee contributions made to the fund.
BAM called for donations on September 10 to support the Special Fund, and several Moroccan national institutions committed funds to help with earthquake relief.
King Mohammed VI held another earthquake emergency meeting on Thursday focusing on rebuilding efforts. The state is implementing a reconstruction program for over 50,000 houses in five provinces. The program includes temporary structures and reception centers, with each household receiving 30,000 MAD. Experts will also ensure ground stability and absence of seismic activity, with 140,000 MAD for destroyed houses and 80,000 MAD for partially collapsed houses.
