The Moroccan Real Estate Agency (ANCFCC) announced on Friday it was donating a sum of one billion MAD to Bank Al-Maghrib’s (BAM) Special Fund No. 126, created to receive donations to provide disaster relief to victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco on September 8.
BAM called for donations on September 10 to support the Special Fund, and several Moroccan national institutions committed funds to help with earthquake relief including the Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR), the National Company of Radio and Television (SNRT), and the National Highway Company of Morocco (ADM).
The official death toll of the earthquake is 2,946, in addition to 5,674 injured, according to an update by the Interior Ministry on Wednesday.
King Mohammed VI held another earthquake emergency meeting on Thursday focusing on the reconstruction of some 50,000 houses that have collapsed entirely or partially in the quake-stricken provinces. The monarch also declared that all orphans who lost their families in the natural disaster will become wards of the state for their protection.
