Morocco’s holding company Al Mada (formerly the Société Nationale d’Investissement) announced that King Mohammed VI has ordered funds in the amount of one billion MAD to be transferred to Special Fund No. 126, a special Treasury account at Morocco’s Central Bank, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), created to receive funds for the purpose of providing disaster relief to victims of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8.
BAM has called for financial contributions to support the Special Fund during the crisis.
Donations can be made within Morocco at BAM’s branches and agencies, as well as at branches of the Kingdom’s General Treasury and collections.
Donations can also be sent by wire transfer via commercial bank branches to the Treasury account using the following RIB: 001 810 00 780 002 011 062 03 18 for standard or instant bank transfers, cash donations, or checks.
The new official death toll from the earthquake is 2,946 (2944 of the deceased have been buried), in addition to 5,674 injured, according to an update by the Interior Ministry on Wednesday.
King Mohammed VI convened another earthquake emergency meeting on Thursday focusing on the reconstruction of some 50,000 houses that have collapsed entirely or partially in the quake-stricken provinces. The monarch also declared that all orphans who lost their families in the natural disaster will become wards of the state for their protection.
