President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and his counterpart from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong-Un, agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in several areas, after a five-hour behind closed doors meeting during Kim’s visit to Vostochny Cosmodrome Spaceport on Wednesday, according to Russian state-owned news agency TASS.
The North Korean leader arrived at the spaceport on his train, which pulled up at the launch vehicle assembly and test building. Putin told reporters that the North Korean leader shows great interest in rocket technology as the country works to establish its space sector.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is said to support Putin’s actions globally, and Kim stated that he believes Russia is engaged in “a sacred fight to protect its sovereignty and security, while combating hegemonic forces that oppose it.”
Russia and the DPRK aim to expand and strengthen cooperation in various areas, including military-technical, economic cooperation, and space exploration, International Relations specialist Andelexar Vorontsov, told TASS.
Putin also stated at a formal luncheon honoring visiting North Korean leader that Moscow and Pyongyang are working to build connections of comradery and good-will in the interests of peace, stability, and prosperity in the area.
