Morocco won a friendly match 1-0 against Burkina Faso on Tuesday at the Bollaert Delelis Stadium in Lens, France.
With the match against Liberia, initially scheduled for Saturday, having been postponed, Tuesday’s match marked the Moroccan national team’s return to the field following the tragic earthquake that devastated the Al Haouz region on Friday, September 8.
A minute of silence was held before the game began as a mark of respect for the earthquake’s victims.
Azzedine Ounahi scored the sole goal of the game in the first half (36′), securing the Atlas Lions’ victory.
Despite the recent tragedy, the stadium was full of fans radiating Morocco’s resilience and unity.
The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced that all profits from ticket sales would be donated to earthquake victims.
In a similar spirit of charity, the Moroccan national team’s head coach, players, and technical staff have committed to donating their match bonuses to earthquake recovery efforts. On Saturday, they also actively participated in a blood drive at one of Agadir’s blood donation sites.
Morocco’s coach, Walid Reguiragui, applauded the “attitude” of the Atlas Lions during the friendly game against Burkina Faso, emphasizing their determination and drive to win. He was pleased with the team’s performance, praising the spirit of persistence and solidarity that prevailed, especially in the aftermath of the Al Haouz earthquake.
