Ramping up its earthquake disaster response, the Moroccan Army at the direction of King Mohammed VI has swiftly deployed a Field Medical-Surgical Hospital in the Tafingoult commune of Taroudant province, one of the regions most hard-hit.
The well equipped, interdisciplinary hospital which has been operating since Sunday is staffed by expert medical teams of doctors, nurses, assistants, and others from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), and now complements the existing facility in the Issni commune (Al Haouz Province) in providing vital medical and surgical care to earthquake survivors.
Colonel Mohamed Al Ahmadi, the chief doctor at the Tafingoult new facility, told MAP that the field hospital encompasses multiple medical and surgical specialties, as well as a psychological care center dedicated to providing counseling to earthquake victims and their families.
Patients who were being treated at the hospital thanked King Mohammed VI and the FAR staff for their prompt response toward alleviating the suffering of the many people affected by the earthquake.
On Tuesday, King Mohammed VI visited victims in the Marrakech University Hospital who were receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during Friday’s massive earthquake.
The King took the opportunity to donate blood in solidarity with the victims and the bereaved families.
The natural disaster has claimed so far at least 2,904 lives. Substantial infrastructure damage has been reported all across central and south Morocco.
