The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an urgent appeal on Tuesday to collect 100 million Swiss francs (approximately 1.142 billion MAD) to support the victims affected by the earthquake that struck Morocco Friday.
“In this appeal, we aim to raise 100 million Swiss francs in order to meet the most pressing needs at this time,” IFRC’s Director of Global Operations Caroline Holt told journalists in Geneva. “We need to ensure that we avoid a second wave of the disaster.”
IFRC’s Director of the Disaster, Climate, and Crisis Department explained that funds received will enable the organization to address the most urgent pressing needs, such as health, water, sanitation, hygiene, and essential items for shelter and basic existence.
Morocco has been battling, since Friday night, the repercussions of a massive 7-magnitude earthquake that rocked its central regions, with a death toll standing at 2,904 as per the latest updates.
