In the aftermath of the massive earthquake that shook Morocco on Friday and Mediterranean Subtropical Storm Daniel that lashed Libya on Sunday, the Republic of Egypt has declared three days of mourning for the Egyptian people to stand in solidarity with the people of Morocco and Libya. The respective natural disasters caused significant and widespread loss of life and damage across both countries.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi sent his condolences to Morocco and Libya for the victims of the two disasters and instructed his armed forces to provide various types of humanitarian support, including relief teams, rescue equipment, and shelter camps, in cooperation and coordination with Libyan and Moroccan associations and institutions.
On Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Ministry reaffirmed its solidarity with Morocco and the Moroccan people in facing the devastating impact of the tragic earthquake, which left thousands dead.
Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb expressed his sincere condolences to the victims, praying to God that they may rest in peace.
