The Professional Group of Moroccan Banks announced on Monday that the service fees banks normally charge bank customers and non-customers for transferring funds between accounts will be waived for public donations into Bank al-Maghrib’s Special Fund No. 126, part of Morocco’s massive national earthquake relief effort. Transfers to the fund will be free of charge.
The group said banks throughout the country are making sure that branch staff and their customers are aware of this development which they hope will facilitate transfers to the national fund and ensure the support of donors, according to a statement.
The decision is part of the banking sector’s commitment to burgeoning national solidarity efforts throughout the country following Friday’s devastating earthquake.
