Russia’s President Vladimir Purin sent, on Saturday early morning, a message to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, offering him and the Moroccan nation his heartfelt condolences following the strong quake that hit the country on Friday night.
Putin stated: “Please accept my sincere condolences on the tragic consequences of the devastating earthquake in the central regions of your country. Russia shares the worry and sorrow of the friendly people of Morocco.”
He went on saying: “Please convey words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those who have suffered as a result of this natural disaster.”
Turkish President Tayyib Erdogan also sent his condolences via Twitter. The French President and his Foreign Minister, the Spanish Prime Minister, and the Emirati Foreign Minister all followed suit, extending condolences to Morocco.
A powerful 7-magnitude earthquake rocked the central regions of Morocco on Friday. The quake took place at a depth of 10km, with the epicenter located in the commune of Ighil (Al Haouz province).
So far, the quake claimed 820 deaths, and 672 injured, including 205 gravely.
