The 18th Edition of the Timitar, Signs and Cultures Festival began Thursday evening in Agadir. The festival will run from Thursday until Saturday at Al Amal Square and Theatre de Verdure and will feature 60 iconic Moroccan and international singers.
The goal of the event is to promote the tolerance and coexistence for which Morocco is known, and the motto of the festival is “Amazigh music welcomes World Music.”
This year’s edition is especially significant considering King Mohammed VI’s historic decision to make the Amazigh New Year a public holiday in Morocco.
Friday and Saturday’s performance will include well known artists such as Manal Benchlikha, Zakaria Ghafouli, the Algerian Labesse and the Lebanese group Adonis.
Timitar will pay tribute to the Amazigh heritage with emblematic figures of the Rways art form, such as Aicha Tachinouite, Houssine Amerrakchi, Aârab Atigui, the groups Hamid Inerzf, and Larbi imghrane. The famous Amazigh Ahwach, or line dance and song, an inescapable pillar of the Amazigh culture, will open all the stages as usual.
The Sahara music will be represented by the famous Malian duo Amadou and Mariam, the group T’arma N-Tiniri from Ouarzazate, and the group Bab L’Bluz, a Franco-Moroccan fusion of Gnawa and Hassani music.
Timitar, Agadir’s major cultural event, is organized in collaboration with the Souss-Massa region, the municipality of Agadir, the region’s Wilaya, the Prefecture of Agadir Idda Outanane, the Association Régionale de l’Industrie Hôtelière d’Agadir, the Conseil Régional du Tourisme, along with other sponsors and local authorities.
