New Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been forced to withdraw from Morocco duty due to an injury, reported British newspaper the “Daily Mail.”
Coach Walid Regragui has called up Yahya Jabrane to replace Amrabat. The Atlas Lions are scheduled to face both Liberia and Burkina Faso, with the former being an Africa Cup of Nations qualification and the latter a friendly.
The extent of Amrabat’s injury is unknown, although Manchester United had discovered a back problem during his physical.
Nevertheless, the condition is not regarded to be significant, and the club will have the 27-year-old back in full fitness as soon as possible. However, the injury does cast doubt on Amrabat’s availability for the team’s match against Brighton on September 16.
The 27-year-old said earlier this week how happy he is to have become Manchester United’s first Moroccan player, joking that his arrival will bring the club “an additional million” followers.
The Moroccan midfielder joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Fiorentina on deadline day, with the Red Devils paying the Italian club an £8 million loan fee with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for £21 million.
Amrabat captured the world’s attention late last year as a key player during Morocco’s historic ascension to the World Cup semi-finals.
