In a friendly match held in the Fez Sports Complex on Thursday evening, the Moroccan under-23 national team, AFCON U23 champions, defeated Brazil, double Olympic medal winning champions, 1-0.
Zakaria Ouahdi shot Morocco’s winning goal in the 73rd minute of the second half, although a power outage had disrupted the game for several minutes at the opening of the second half.
The Atlas Lions sought to increase their lead, scoring a second goal in the 80th minute after the game resumed, but it was ultimately determined to be offside and disallowed by Senegalese referee Alioune Sow.
The Moroccan U23 team will play their Brazilian counterparts again in a friendly encounter on Monday, September 11, in Fez, as part of the leadup to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Football Tournament.
