Israel’s Deputy Director-General and Head of the Middle East and Peace Process Department at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Oded, led a delegation to Morocco’s Royal Institute for Strategic Studies in Rabat.
Head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Morocco David Govrin accompanied Oded during the visit where the institute presented its mission and programs. Discussions focused on recent security developments in the Middle East and North Africa, highlighting future potential ramifications of ongoing geopolitical challenges, as well as ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Morocco and Israel.
The Israeli delegation recognized that the African roots of the Kingdom and its commitment to the dynamics of the continent, in addition to its diverse origins, mean that Morocco can play an important role in developing trilateral cooperation between Israel, Morocco, and Africa.
Israel and Morocco resumed their relations in December 2020 as part of the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords.
The State of Israel has since recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and has voiced its intent to open a consulate in Dakhla.
Morocco is partnering with Israel in many areas, including military, cultural, and technical cooperation.
