In the early hours of Friday morning, police in Sidi Bernoussi, a suburb northeast of Casablanca, interrupted a maritime international drug trafficking attempt. They seized about 2 tons of cannabis resin, locally known as chira. According to a press release published by the National Police (DGSN), two people were also apprehended.
According to the statement, as part of security operation off the Casablanca coast, the police seized 1,863 kilos of cannabis resin divided among 51 total packages. The police also seized two boats, two marine engines, and several plastic containers containing fuel.
Police succeeded in capturing two suspects, aged 28 and 51, near the scene of the drug catch. The accused individuals were remanded in police custody for the investigation, under the supervision of the Public Prosecution.
