American magazine Global Finance ranked Bank Al-Maghrib Governor Abdellatif Jouahri one of the “world’s best” Central Bank Governors, awarding him an “A-” in its annual “Central Banker Report Cards 2023” report published on Thursday.
Since 1994 the rankings have graded governors in 101 countries, territories, and districts throughout the world. This year’s rankings are striking because Bank Al-Maghrib is the only bank in the MENA region included.
Global Finance founder and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo said in a press release that the magazine’s annual Central Banker Report Cards “celebrate bank governors whose strategies outperformed peers in combating inflation, driven by high demand and supply chain disruptions. The cards highlight innovative, creative, and tenacious approaches to managing inflation.”
Factors such as success in inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability, and interest rate management are graded on a scale from A to F, according to Global Finance. An “A” denotes great performance, and an “F” denotes complete failure.
Founded in 1987, the magazine covers global finance topics like corporate finance, joint ventures, mergers, capital, currencies, banking, and risk management.
