A Palestinian man who slammed his truck into Israeli soldiers at a busy West Bank checkpoint on Thursday, killing one person and injuring others, has been shot dead, reported international news outlets.
Police said the driver is 41 years old and had a permit to work legally in Israel. He fled the scene but was shot dead at another checkpoint nearby.
The incident came after an Israeli off-duty police officer shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian teenager who had allegedly stabbed a man in a Jerusalem light-rail station.
The checkpoint where the truck rammed into the soldiers is on a major highway leading from central Israel through the occupied West Bank into Jerusalem and is next to the Israeli city of Modiin.
In another attack overnight on Thursday, an explosive device wounded four Israeli soldiers as they patrolled and escorted Jewish settlers to Joseph’s Tomb in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, a situs of confrontation where Palestinians regularly protest.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of 2023, according to Aljazeera, making it the bloodiest year for Palestinians since records began in 2006. At least 30 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks in the same period.
