As a result of riots that followed the football match between Nahdat Berkane (RSB) and MC Oujda (MCO) on Sunday evening, police launched ‘security operations’ that resulted in the arrest of 21 people, including 17 minors, according to an anonymous security source.
The suspects were arrested during a post-game security sweep on suspicion of being involved in stone-throwing, damage to public property, use of non-fire weapons, and drug use. These disturbances caused significant damages, including the destruction of five vehicles belonging to the public forces.
Adult defendants were taken into police custody, while minors will remain under surveillance until an investigation is conducted by the public prosecutor’s office to determine the exact charges.
Police services still need to do more investigation to determine the identities of others involved in the riots.
Recently, Casablanca police arrested 270 people, including 53 juveniles, for vandalism following a football match between Tihad Athletic Sport (TAS) of Casablanca and Meknes CODM. This violence caused damage to 21 vehicles, damaged private businesses, and hurt 40 workers.
