Morocco’s judicial police nabbed five suspects in successful anti-human-trafficking operations conducted in Mehdia (near Kenitra) and Tan Tan (south). The individuals are accused of being involved in illegal migration and human trafficking.
The police foiled an illegal sea migration attempt utilizing a fishing boat in Mehdia, arresting four people, aged 29 to 36, who had allegedly arranged the voyage for a group of would-be migrants.
Simultaneously, in Tan Tan the police apprehended a 30-year-old smuggler who was accompanying another group of would-be migrants and allegedly planning an illegal migration attempt at the mouth of the River Draa.
A search of the suspects’ names in the National Security database revealed that one of the traffickers and one of the potential migrants were already subject to national search warrants for fraud, assault, and battery.
The suspects were remanded into police custody pending further investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.
