Morocco’s Commission for Personal Data Protection (CNDP) revealed on Thursday that it had contacted the organization GAMMAs about disclosure and privacy protection, along with eleven similar institutions, to call for increased protection of personal data worldwide.
CNDP co-signed a letter with counterpart bodies from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, Colombia, Jersey, Argentina, and Mexico.
CNDP revealed that the joint message was focused primarily on instances of individuals using and posting personal data on the following sites: Alphabet Inc. (Google, YouTube), ByteDance Ltd (TikTok), Meta Platforms, Inc. (Instagram, Facebook, and Threads), Microsoft Corporation (LinkedIn), Sina Corp (Weibo), and X Corp. (Twitter).
The signatory institutions urged GAMMAs to take the necessary steps to reduce the risks of privacy infringement associated with the disclosure of people’s data, including the risks of targeted cyberattacks, identity theft, random electronic addresses, and unauthorized direct marketing.
Furthermore, the expectations outlined in this joint message highlighted the primary factors that the above-listed companies must consider in order to protect personal data on their websites, with the goal of complying with applicable data protection and privacy laws around the world.
