Chairperson of the Defense Committee at the Peruvian Congress, Patricia Chirinos, urged President Dina Boluarte to break the country’s ties with the polisario, and reconsider Peru’s stance on the Moroccan Sahara.
Patricia Chirinos made the call in a letter released recently in Lima.
“I invite you to rethink Peru’s position by distancing the country from the armed separatist group,” read the letter.
Chirinos added that Morocco will perceive this expected change in Peru’s position as a friendly gesture. “Morocco will welcome this initiative as a true recognition of its territorial integrity.”
She recalled the historical bonds between Morocco and Peru and urged to further bilateral relations, taking into account the Kingdom’s growing importance on the African and global scenes.
Chirinos also underscored King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to Peru in 2004.
