A Moroccan national was assaulted and sustained head injury after his assailant, a taxi driver, knocked him down on Monday in Istanbul. The xenophobic incident was caught on camera and sparked outrage on social media.
The cab driver had refused to take the victim, a 57yo Moroccan man, to his destination, arguing that it was close by. The argument degenerated into an assault when the driver exited his vehicle and attacked the victim, who had been living in Turkey for the past 13 years.
The fall had caused a massive brain hemorrhage, killing the victim shortly after his admission to hospital.
The culprit was identified and arrested by the police. He is expected to stand trial on homicide and assault charges.
