An alarming series of incidents involving French police have sparked public indignation and triggered official inquiries. A recent video showing French policemen running over a person and arresting him has gone viral…as did precedent ones.
The new incident, which is being investigated by the Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office, is occurring shortly after the police shooting of a teenager (named Nahel) in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. The killing had prompted mass protests across the country.
The video shows a black man hit by a police vehicle, then pinned to the ground to neutralize him in a Floyd-like style.
The use of excessive force by the police has reignited the debate about the role and methods used by law enforcement officers.
On a separate note, three French police officers have been accused of manslaughter in connection with the murder of a 27y man (allegedly of Arab origin) in Marseille’s riots, according to France 24. Based on postmortem evidence, the victim had succumbed to injuries from a blast ball.
