Saudi Arabian soccer club Al-Hilal announced, via its official Twitter account on X, the formal signing of Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou from Europa League champions Sevilla FC under a three-year contract, on Thursday.
Looking to replace the club’s heroic goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Mayouf, Al-Hilal has committed €21 million for Bounou’s transfer, bringing the club’s net spending this summer to nearly €300 million.
Al-Hilal announced, “The Atlantic lion is our goalie.”
According to sports media, the Moroccan international player had been in discussions with Bayern Munich about a summer move, but Al-Hilal’s bid forced them to back out as they couldn’t match the Saudi offer.

Bounou began his career with Wydad Casablanca in Morocco before moving on to Spain where he became professional with Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Girona, and finally Sevilla, where he has played since 2019.
The star assisted Sevilla in winning two Europa Leagues and was vital in Morocco reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2022.
Recently, the world’s best soccer talents have decided to join Saudi teams, including the Portuguese Ronaldo, the French Karim Benzema, and the Brazilian Neymar.
