Four Moroccan Filmmakers have been selected among a total of 33 recipients to receive support and funding from the Red Sea Fund, the financing arm of the Saudi Arabian non-profit Red Sea International Film Festival, reported Morocco’s Official Channel SNRT on Thursday.
The funds will finance Moroccan director Sofia Alaoui’s series “May the earth burn,” Meriem Addou’s documentary ” Women in the Sun,” Alaa Eddine Aljem’s “Alfirdaous,” and Mehdi Ayoub’s “Flying like a Bird.”
The Festival is dedicated to the improvement of the MENA region’s cinematic scene, and especially fostering the film industry in Saudi Arabia.
The Fund’s mission is to assist filmmakers and film culture participants in Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, and Africa in developing skills and knowledge, as well as in turning thoughts into tangible works. It focuses on supporting local talent.
The 33 selected projects stand out for their unique ideas, and depth and diversity of storytelling, whether in feature films, documentaries, or animated films.
These projects are likely to contribute to the renaissance of the cultural landscape as well as the strengthening of cinematographic diversity and intercultural dialogue to ensure the sustainability of the MENA region’s film industry.
