Taza has lost more than 790 hectares of its forest area since wildfires broke out in the commune of Maghraoua, near Taza, last Friday.
On Wednesday, Morad Safadi, provincial director of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) announced in a statement to MAP that the fire was fully contained after six days of intense fighting.
Residents who were evacuated from high-risk areas as a precaution have all returned to their homes. The authorities had to displace more than a hundred occupants from three villages near the blaze’s perimeter.
The wildfire is now fully under control, thanks to the efforts of teams from ANEF, Civil Protection, the Royal Gendarmerie, local authorities, and Auxiliary Forces, supported by units from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). Thanks to a Canadair aircraft deployed by the army, no loss of life was recorded.
