British soccer team Liverpool has reportedly started talks with Italy’s Fiorentina to acquire Moroccan international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, rumored to be interested in Liverpool’s rival Manchester United, reported several news outlets.
Liverpool had been courting new midfield talent this summer in the form of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, but was knocked out of the race when they chose to jump to rival Chelsea.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, however, may now be poised to win the transfer battle for Amrabat, who is reportedly considering rejecting Manchester United’s approach in favor of Liverpool, according to Dutch tabloid AD.
Klopp has seemingly managed to win over the Moroccan international in talks, and the 26-year-old Amrabat now has his heart set on moving to Liverpool, the British “Daily Mail” reported.
The possibility of a transfer to Manchester United has been on the cards since Amrabat’s spectacular performance during Morocco’s run last year at the 2022 World Cup semi-finals in Qatar.
Liverpool, which kicked off its season with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday, finished 5th last season and is now in the group stage at the UEFA Europa League.
