American company Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced a $300 million long-term lease arrangement with Morocco’s carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) in a news release on Wednesday. The contract includes four cutting-edge Boeing 737-8s and one Boeing 737-800. The new aircraft will be added to RAM’s fleet in 2024, strengthening operations and customer service.
“ALC is pleased to announce this lease placement for five Boeing 737 aircraft with Royal Air Maroc,” said Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of ALC. “We look forward to building our long-term relationship with RAM as they continue to modernize their fleet and grow their network, as well as maximize their competitive advantage with the most fuel-efficient aircraft in the market.”
The deal is significant in a number of respects, according to Abdelhamid Addou, Chief Executive Officer of RAM. Under the agreement, he said, “Royal Air Maroc will receive additional aircraft that will strengthen and modernize our operational fleet, enabling us to consistently enhance the quality of service for our customers, while also reducing our carbon footprint in line with our environmental commitment.”
This strategic collaboration aligns with RAM’s mission to provide exceptional service while being eco-friendly. The development of advanced fuel-efficient aircraft contributes to environmental goals, paving the way for expansion and innovation in the aviation industry.
RAM is considered one of the prominent airlines in Africa. In June, it ranked “Best Regional Airline in Africa 2023” in the Skytrax World Airline Awards, and secured the 53rd spot in the Skytrax World “Top100” Airlines. The company also topped other airlines for the ninth time in a row and was ranked second best airline in Africa, behind Ethiopian Airlines
