President of Peru Dina Boluarte was urged to mend the strained ties with Morocco, a consequence of her predecessor Pedro Castillo’s political choices, wrote Peruvian daily “La Razon”.
In an article entitled “Peru and Morocco, a relationship marred by ideological factors,” journalist Ricardo Sánchez Serra said that President Boluarte has not yet fixed the harm that Castillo caused to relations with Morocco, noting that this is an urgent matter that should be addressed away from ideological considerations.
On SADR fake entity, Serra, who is also vice-president of the Federation of Journalists of Peru, noted that it lacks the pre-requisites to qualify as a state under international law and is not recognized by the UN.
The writer recalled that the resolution of the Sahara issue should be under the UN aegis. “Peru’s stance on this matter remains neutral.”
By rekindling ties with a factitious entity, Peru is playing the “Russian roulette” to undermine Morocco’s territorial integrity, said the writer, blaming this state of affairs on the ex-president who was dismissed and imprisoned for conspiracy.
The author wondered how can a self-respecting country repeatedly recognize such entity and recant its recognition.
He also shed light on the UNSC long support for the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, describing it as “serious, realistic and credible”.
He regretted that Peru is going against the tide at a time when numerous States, including the United States and Israel, are expressing their recognition of the Moroccan Sahara, and the Moroccan autonomy plan is gaining worldwide support.
