Casablanca’s Court of instance sentenced, on Friday, MP of the RNI Party and President of Olympic of Asfi Mohammed El Hidaoui to 18 months in prison and fined him 2,000 MAD for fraudulent ticket brokering of the Morocco-France football match, played as part of the World Cup 2022.
The court also gave a 10-month sentence to a journalist, under the same case, and fined him 100 MAD.
Mohamed Al Haidawi was apprehended in Casablanca on July 26, while the journalist was released on bail.
The story goes back to last year WC 2022 World Cup semi-final match, for which tickets were supposed to be distributed free of charge. A series of audio snippets, which went viral on social media, expose Al Haidawi for fraudulently selling the tickets at exorbitant prices.
Authorities acted after the Judicial Police completed an extensive investigation into the illicit black-market sale of tickets.
