A violent thunderstorm with howling winds struck on Thursday evening the red city of Marrakech, causing the death of one person. A fallen tree hit and killed the victim at the Jemaa El-Fna square.
Another man narrowly avoided being squashed to death by a large wardrobe as the wind was blowing in gusts.
According to local media, the individuals were mostly passers-by or waiting at a bus stop.
Images circulating on the web show significant material damage. The volume of local traffic substantially declined due to poor visibility.
