Billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter (now X) Elon Musk declared on Wednesday that he is “currently learning” about Moroccan globe-trotting explorer Ibn Battuta.
“Highly recommend ‘The Explorers’ podcast for stories of exploration of many cultures over the ages. I am currently learning about Ibn Battuta, an amazingly widely traveled Islamic explorer,” he tweeted on “X.”

Ibn Battuta (1304–1377) is best known for his extensive travels throughout the Islamic world and beyond. He covered over 75,000 miles across North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, India, Southeast Asia, and China and documented his experiences in a travelogue called “A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Travelling,” commonly known as the “Rihla” (The Travel).
His historical account provides valuable insights into the social, cultural, and political landscapes of the places he visited in the 14th century.
