Morocco’s Meteorology Department (DGM) forecast an intense heatwave in several regions of the Kingdom, on Monday and Tuesday, with soaring temperatures hitting 38 and even 49 degrees.
A red alert was issued for the provinces of Fkih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Khenifra, Settat, Kalaat Sraghna, Ouazzane, and Taounate, Moulay Yaacoub, Sidi Kacem, and east of Larache. The cities are expected to record temperatures of up to 49 degrees.
An orange alert warning that heat might reach 48 degrees was issued for Tata, Zagora, Assa-Zag, and eastern Smara.
Degrees ranging between 42 and 46 will be recorded in Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Meknes, Fez, Taza, Rehamna, Marrakesh, Taroudant, Errachidia, and eastern Guelmim.
Kenitra, Sefrou, Ifrane, Azilal, Al Haouz, Boulmane, Ben Slimane, Jerada, Figuig, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and Ouarzazate may also see severe heat (38- 43 degrees.)
Tangier-Assilah, Fahs-Anjra, and East Tetouan provinces will experience strong gusty winds (70 to 80 km per hour).
Heavy rain and T-storms will hit Khouribga, Azilal, and Fakih Ben Saleh.
