World Champion Khadija El Mardi (81kg) defeated her Congolese adversary and won the gold medal at the African Boxing Championships (Yaoundé-2023). The Moroccan boxing team was crowned African champion, with a total of 13 medals, including 8 gold.
Widad Bartal won Morocco’s first gold medal in the 54kg weight class, defeating Algerian Fatima-Zohra Abdelkader.
Rabab Cheddar earned silver in the (51kg) category, as did Oumama Bel Ahbib (66kg).
Imad Azzouzi (54kg) finished on top of the podium. Unsurprisingly, Mohamed Rabii won gold in the 75kg weight class.
Mohammed Sghir won the fifth national gold medal, and Yasmine Moutakki got the sixth.
For their part, Said Moutaraji and Soulaimane Samgouli gave Morocco the 7th and 8th gold medals.
Nouhaila Hlioui, Nesrine Amine and Nadir Abdelhak took bronze.
33 teams competed in the 2023 African Boxing Championships. Morocco was represented by 18 pugilists (10 men/8 women).
