Following their astounding triumph and historic qualification, FIFA and CAF extended their hearty congratulations, and felicitated the deserving Moroccan women’s national team over yesterday’s victory and moving to WC knockouts, in their first ever tournament to play.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated Morocco on its 1-0 victory over Colombia on Thursday, as part of Women’s World Cup 2023.
FIFA president posted an Instagram video from Perth Rectangular Stadium, congratulating the team on their qualification for the round 16 of world championship. “It was great to attend the superb game between Morocco and Colombia this evening in Perth,” he wrote.
“Congratulations to Colombia and Morocco for reaching the knockout stage in their first FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance.” He added in the same post Morocco’s motto “Dima Maghreb!”
Another post featured photos of the FIFA President congratulating Nouhaila Benzina on winning the title of first World Cup player to wear a hijab. Infantino took advantage of his interaction with Benzina to heap praise on Morocco’s qualification. “It was wonderful to meet Nouhaila Benzina and congratulate her and the entire Moroccan team once again for playing so well and qualifying for the knockout stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023,” he remarked.
The president reaffirmed FIFA’s ongoing dedication to supporting the principles of inclusion, diversity, and tolerance. “This is a true symbol of inclusion, a symbol that football is for everyone, a symbol that some people don’t always have to teach the rest of the world lessons, that we have simply to enjoy ourselves.”
The African Confederation of Football (CAF) also feted the Atlas Lionesses’ historic debut, prowess, and determination, lauding the performances of Khadija Er-Rmichi, Ibtissam Jraidi, and Anissa Lahmari.
