Morocco’s women football team will be for sure extending their World Cup journey, by beating on Thursday Colombia (1-0). With Anissa Lahmari scoring the only goal, the squad will be moving to the knockouts, becoming the third African nation to advance past the pool stage.
The Atlas Lionesses gained the lead with Lahmari in the first half and kept going till the end of an exciting 104-minute encounter in Perth, Australia.
Both Morocco and Colombia ended with a total of six points in Group H, while Germany finished with four points and South Korea with only one point and were eliminated.
This is an incredible result for the Moroccan players, who were thumped 6-0 by Germany in their first group match, but rebounded with a pair of 1-0 wins against South Korea and Colombia.
The Atlas Lionesses’ next outing is against France on Tuesday in Adelaide, Australia.
