The flow of remittances from Moroccans living abroad reached approximately 55.3 billion MAD in the first half of 2023, a 13.9% rise year on year (48.57 billion dirhams in 2022), as per Morocco’s foreign exchange regulator “Office des Changes”.
The value of transfers from the Moroccan diaspora climbed by 6.75 billion dirhams by June 2023.
As for trade surplus, it rose from 24.84 billion MAD to 62.5 billion MAD. This gain is attributed to a +36.3% increase in exports to 121.85 billion MAD, a higher rate than imports (+14.7% increase to 59.35 billion dirhams).
According to the Central Bank, remittances from Moroccans residing abroad were set to rise by 3.5% to 114.7 billion MAD in 2023. There are an estimated 5 million Moroccans all over the world.
