In an almost routine desecration of Quran in Sweden, which may be aspires to top western countries triggering and infuriating Muslims, two men set the holy book on fire outside the Swedish parliament on Monday, reported French News Agency (AFP).
Salwan Momika and Salwan Najem kicked and stomped on the holy book before setting its pages on flames, repeating what they have done at a demonstration outside Stockholm’s major mosque late June.
Momika also stepped on a picture of Shiite Muslim and political leader Moqtada Sadr, whose followers had stormed Sweden’s embassy in Baghdad in response to prior desecrations.
Najem assured the Expressen newspaper about his self-dictated right to burn the Quran. “I’m going to keep burning it until they ban it,” he declared. “What’s the crime here?” It is only a bit of paper. Do you have any idea how many threats we’ve received? “All because of a bit of paper.”
According to an onsite AFP reporter, Momika and Najem were protesting alone, and few other counter-protesters were on the other side of the police barrier.
In the words of Mats Eriksson, a spokesman for the Stockholm police, the event “was conducted without any serious public order disruption.”
Fanatics in Denmark and Sweden have been racing lately to burn copies of the Quran, sparking outrage in Muslim nations. The Danish government is currently looking for a legal mechanism to interfere with this common practice that encroaches on free speech.
