Chariot Company got a new exploration license for “Loukos Onshore”, under an agreement with Morocco’s Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM), the company announced on Tuesday in a press release.
The agreement, which covers an area of about 1,372 km2, will expand the company’s exploration in the Kingdom and serve national industries, added the same source.
The new, untapped zone is adjacent to the two offshore licenses: Lixus (which includes the Anchois gas project) and Rissana.
Chariot owns 75% of the concession through its subsidiary Chariot Limited, while ONHYM owns the remaining 25%.
Director General of ONHYM, Amina Benkhadra, stated that Chariot team have “a substantial understanding and knowledge of this basin from their extensive exploration in the area and we look forward to their ongoing work and progress with a view to accelerating the supply of gas to the Moroccan markets.”
Chariot’s Technical Director Duncan Wallace said: “The onshore operating environment offers a significantly lower cost development and an attractively priced domestic industrial market ready to serve.”
Chariot has signed pilot projects in Morocco to evaluate large-scale green hydrogen production, showcasing its commitment to expanding its green hydrogen portfolio across Africa.
